JUMPSTART
Jumpstart is a community partnership dedicated to the expansion of
new and existing child nourishment program. One of the main goals
is to create universal access to nutritious food for all children
in Windsor and Essex County. In cooperation with Canadian Living
foundation and Breakfast for Learning, nutrition is a fundamental
determinant of healthy child development and good nutrition
enhances a child’s ability to learn. Jumpstart is a coalition of
several community organizations consisting of five main partners,
The Greater Essex County District School Board, Windsor-Essex
District Catholic School Board, Windsor-Essex County Health Unit
and the United Way/Centraide of Windsor-Essex County. Visit

ENHANCING CULTURAL CONNECTIONS
Windsor-Essex County is a very diverse community. According to the
2001 Census of Canada 102 ethno-cultural groups are
represented in our community. Representation on Boards from the
ethno-cultural community will ensure that the programs & services
offered by Not-For-Profit Organizations are culturally and
linguistically appropriate.
The involvement of members from cultural communities as a member
of a Board of Directors, will assist Not-For-Profit organizations
in the identification and removal of barriers. The project is
funded by Canadian Heritage. To find out more about this project

CULTURAL DIVERSITY INCLUSION PROJECT
The project will develop a comfort level within ethno-cultural
groups so that they will actively participate in community
planning initiatives. United Way is leading a community planning
initiative to identify priorities and leverage resources in six
impact areas: children and youth, individual and families,
seniors, person with disabilities, volunteers and community
supports. One of the indicators of success of this initiative will
be the extent to which we involve community. Since the
ethno-cultural population is highly represented in the community,
we need to explore ways to increase involvement in this important
community planning initiative. For more information on the
project, contact
mciampa@weareunited.com.
