How can I network with other Volunteer Managers in Windsor and Essex County? The Windsor-Essex Association for Volunteer Administration (WEAVA) helps to promote and strengthen the profession of Volunteer Administration by providing networking and professional development opportunities to its members.

What is volunteer screening? Screening is an ongoing process designed to identify any person who may harm children or vulnerable adults. Screening of volunteers creates and maintains a safe environment for your clients, employees and volunteers, as well as, helps to ensure an appropriate match between volunteer and task. Screening is legally required under the principle of “Duty of Care”. Click here for more information about volunteer screening.


Are there any guidelines for the development of a volunteer position? We recommend that you review a document called A Matter of Design: Job Design Theory and application to the voluntary sector (Volunteer Canada, 2001). This document is an excellent resource to voluntary sector organizations in developing volunteer position descriptions based the organizations’ structure and resources, the changing expectations of volunteers and the challenges of recruiting and retaining volunteers. What is a virtual volunteer? A virtual volunteer is a person whose volunteer work is completed, in whole or in part, via the Internet (or other network) and a home or work computer. It's also known as online volunteering, cyber service, online mentoring, teletutoring and a number of other names. Virtual volunteering allows organizations to expand the benefits of their volunteer programs by allowing volunteers to participate in new and innovative ways.
